What to Expect
Two weeks prior to your appointment, avoid the following:
- Sun exposure
- All tanning lotions, sprays or pills
- Tanning beds
- NO Accutane for 6 months
- Patient should not be any medication that increases photosensitivity – Treatment may be done 2 weeks after last dose.
- You must reschedule if you have any active cold sores.
- Discontinue use of any retinols or retinoids 2 days prior.
A topical numbing cream may be applied to your skin 30-45 minutes before your MOXI treatment, depending on the goals you have discussed with your provider.
Post treatment wear a physical sunscreen and stay out of the sun. You may wear makeup 24 hours after treatment.
- Your skin may be red and feel hot with inflammation throughtout the first day and/or day after, depending on your level of treatment.
- Skin may be itchy and feel like sandpaper
- Swelling is common
- You will begin to notice dark brown micro dots called “mends”.
- Between day 3 and 5, the mends will slough off, and new skin will be revealed.
- The healing process typically takes 5-7 days.
- Wash your skin morning and night with a gentle cleanser and keep your skin moisturized.
- ALWAYS wear SPF & avoid sun exposure 2 weeks post treatment.
- Cold compresses may be used as needed.
- DO NOT exfoliate, scratch or pick off MENDS, as doing so may induce post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, scarring and/or infection.
- NO hot showers or exercise for the first 48 hours.
- Use only recommended aftercare products.
- Sleep on a clean pillow case, elevate to reduce swelling.
- Following your treatment, an ice pack may be applied to the treated area if desired. For best results, avoid anything that could create heat in the skin tissue for 72 hours. This includes: exercise, spicy foods, alcohol, hot showers & baths.

Your clinician will apply a topical numbing agent
You may feel a warm prickling sensation and patients often describe the laser as a warm sand paper feeling. Generally there is minimal discomfort due to the topical numbing cream. When the treatment is done, the skin may feel hot and tight, and patients may experience swelling.
Initially we recommend a series of treatments, followed by maintenance treatments as needed. Prior to the treatments, a provider will assess your skin and discuss your goals and expectations. This will help us determine is MOXI is the right treatment for you, allow for a customized procedure plan, and address specific concerns and how many treatments may be recommended.
After a few days, you may see improvement, but a series of treatments is highly recommended to dramatically achieve optimal results.
3-5 days is the expected downtime with this treatment, and mild swelling is a potential side effect. Since MOXI is a non-ablative laser treatment, after care is simply to stay out of the sun and a wear a moisturizing physical sunscreen!
MOXI an BBL laser treatments both improve areas of skin rejuvenation, however for maximum results we recommend using both treatments to compliment to each other for full correctiont.
