HOW TO PREPARE
For best results, we want your skin to be in the most natural state possible. Two weeks prior to your appointment, avoid the following:
- Sun exposure
- All tanning lotions, sprays or pills
- Tanning beds
- Medication that increase photosensitivity
Avoid blood thinners pre and post treatment to increase the success of vascular reduction, especially in rosacea patients.
THE PROCEDURE ~ WHAT TO EXPECT:
You may feel a warming sensation, as the BBL handpiece is moving across your skin, and directing quick pulses of light energy through the upper layers of the skin. The handpiece utilizes a cooling plate to maintain comfort, and pigments will break down and be naturally discarded from the body, as the pigmented areas will absorb the light. No anesthetic is needed, as there is no pain associated with this treatment. Each part of the body will take only a few minutes to 30 minutes to treat.
THE RECOVERY ~ WHAT TO EXPECT:
Pigmented spots or lesions may look darker after the BBL HERO treatment. This is an indication that the BBL light was successfully absorbed on the targeted part of your skin. Graduatlly the darkness fades as the pigmentation breaks up and is released.
- Your face may appear sensitive, red or flushed, which usually fades within a few hours up to a few days, along with some minor swelling, similar to a sunburn.
- Individuals with prominent pigmentation may notice that brown areas become temporarily darker and typically peel off within 10-14 days.
- You may experience more swelling in vascular treated areas.
- Some may have a histamine reaction that subsides in about a week.
- Keep skin moisturized, AVOID direct sun exposure, but normal activities can be resumed immediately.
BBL HERO results can be maintained with consistent treatments and are long lasting. The results will be improved skin texture, tone and overall appearance. The technology versatility of the BBL HERO allows for precise targeting of specific pigments that produces natural looking results. Clearer, healthier and younger looking skin can be expected after your treatment. Consistent treatments may be necessary to maintain your results, and the specific frequency and number of sessions will depend on your goals. A treatment plan will be customized for you with additional skin care products recommended to maintain your skins overall health. To protect your skin from further damage, we strongly encourage you to apply sunscreen daily.
HOW TO CARE:
- Following your treatment, an ice pack may be applied to the treated area if desired. Treated pigment will slough off the face in approximately one week and off the body in approximately 2-3 weeks. DO NOT PICK AT THE PIGMENT. This may result or induce post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, scarring or infection. Avoid anything that could create heat in the skin tissue for 72 hours for optimal results. This includes:
- Sun exposure and use a broad spectrum sunscreen recommended by your cinician
- Exercise
- Spicy Foods
- Alcohol
- Hot Showers, baths, saunas, hot tubs and sweaty activity until skin is completely healed.
- Avoid products containing exfoliating agents; retinoic acid, tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, astringents, etc for 7 days after treatment.
- You may resume your regular skin care routine after seeing your aesthetician for a follow up, typically 7 days after your treatment.
- Your provider will send you home with proper care instructions and may recommend specific skincare for treatment at home during the healing process.
- ALWAYS APPLY SUNSCREEM DAILY!!!

HOW DOES THE BBL WORK?
The BBL laser precisely delivers laser light energy to specific targets in your skin and gently heat the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to regenerate. If brown spots are the target, BBL penetrates the skin to reach the pigment. The particles of the pigment left behind will peel or slough off within 7-14 days. IF redness is the target, blood vessels in the superficial layers of the skin absorb the laser energy which causes them to close. Over the course of several weeks, the body continues to absorb the destroyed vessel remenants.
The treatment uses pulses of light energy to penetrate the skins surface and stimulate collagen and elastin production, for a more tighter and youthful looking result on your skin. BBL HERO heats the deep dermis of your skin to trigger collagen production which reduces wrinkles and improves overall skin tone.
The hand held device delivers light energy that emits a broad range of wavelengths, that target specific pigments in the skin. For example, melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color, can be targeted to treat hyoerpigmentation and age spots. Hemoglobin, the pigment that gives blood its red color can be targeted to treat redness and rosacea. The light energy is absorbed by the targeted pigments, which causes them to break down, and leads to the natural removal of the damaged tissue.
